Hajer Al-jebori, ALY ‘18 and a student at Todd Beamer High School, has been selected for a legislative page position with State Representative Mike Pellicciotti of the 30th District. She will serve during the Spring 2018 legislative session in Olympia, WA.
Although she had been doing her own research for opportunities to learn more about her areas of interest, Hajer was excited when AL Executive Director Lawrence Garrett told her about the legislative page program. She worked hard on the application, trying not just to provide information but to give Rep. Pellicciotti a sense of who she was and why this experience appealed to her personally.
“Through the page program I hope to learn more about how the U.S. government functions, specifically in Washington State, and become more knowledgeable about the political field,” she told us. “I believe that ALY has given me tremendous preparation for events like this … it has been one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. I’ve learned so much about all types of different career paths that I’ve been curious about and gotten to know a bunch of amazing people.”
Hajer also emphasized that ALY has been pivotal in “getting to know who I am as a person and allowing me to become the best leader I can be.”
Lawrence is thrilled to see her engaged in an opportunity that is a clear match for her interests. “Hajer is another exceptional ALY student that has a passion for civil rights and equity in education. I’m happy to see her take her talents and perspective to Olympia to be involved in the legislation process.”
